In 2006 I began experimenting with two new projects:
printing photographs on fabric, and teaching myself to do free-motion
machine quilting. I had no clear idea where it would go, but I wanted
to find a way to turn my photographic images into a tactile experience.
Over three years, through trial and error, I
developed a process that satisfied my wish. My skill with free-motion
stitching improved, too!
IN THE STUDIO
My unique process for preserving and transforming images from nature combines two of my favorite
tools--my camera and my sewing machine.
Computer and printer provide the interface, but for me it is all about seeing through the camera lens, and then touching the image as it comes to life in fibre and thread.
PHOTOS AND STITCHERY
I was struck by this stark image against a cold, grey November sky.
